Romanian Patriarchate - The case of the nun crucified at the Tanacu monastery
Romanian PatriarchateThe Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church has issued a statement about the case where a 23-year-old schizophrenic nun died in a monastery as a result of exorcism. The monk and 4 nuns responsible for the dead of the young woman have been charged with murder.

 
Pope to visit soon the Ecumenical Patriarchate
Despite his firm opposition to Turkey's accession to EU, Pope Benedict XVI has been invited to Turkey by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate. Patriarch Bartolomeos, the spiritual leader of the world's Orthodox Christians, said the visit has not yet been confirmed, but they have received a positive response to their invitation.

Russian Orthodox Church Hopes for "New Page" in WCC Relations
Meeting with a World Council of Churches (WCC) delegation in Moscow, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Alexis II, has expressed gratitude for actions of "authentic Christian solidarity" by ecumenical organizations during the Soviet period, and affirmed the commitment of his church to full participation in the WCC. However, the patriarch warned that new developments in some churches may undermine ecumenical relations.

 
Macedonia: Archbishop to be jailed for 18 months
Forum 18A Serbian Orthodox Archbishop, Jovan (Vranisskovski) of Ohrid, has had an 18 month jail sentence confirmed by a Macedonian appeal court, in the latest development in a long-running government campaign against the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) in support of the rival Macedonian Orthodox Church.

 
Serbia: Police ban Romanian Orthodox commemoration
When ethnic Vlachs led by a local Romanian Orthodox priest tried to hold a religious commemoration at the abandoned monastery of Koroglas in eastern Serbia on 21 May, they faced not only an alleged "spontaneously-organised" group of Serbian Orthodox who had pledged not to allow the commemoration to proceed but a ban by the local police.

Kobia meets with pope Benedict XVI
(Vatican) - A three-point agenda for further collaboration - understanding of the church, spirituality, and ecumenical formation - was proposed by World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia to Pope Benedict XVI during their meeting today at the Vatican.
