Representatives of all the churches in Europe will be coming together in Sibiu, Romania, in September 2007 to share in the Third European Ecumenical Assembly (EEA3).  The coordinators of the nine Fora which will take place during the Assembly met in Geneva on 30 October 2006.

The themes of these nine Fora represent real historical challenges for the
Churches and Europe in present times. The delegates at the Sibiu Assembly
will have the opportunity to reflect on the following 9 themes: 1. Unity; 2.
Spirituality; 3. Witness; 4. Europe; 5. Religions; 6. Migrations; 7.
Creation; 8. Justice; 9. Peace.

The Christians of Europe will share thoughts on the original contribution
they are called to give to Europe and to the world, guided by the EEA3 theme
“The Light of Christ Shines upon All. Hope for Renewal and Unity in Europe”.

Consideration for these themes is growing throughout European countries: a
national meeting with 200 delegates belonging to various Churches and
communities on the theme of the Charta Oecumenica took place in Terni,
Italy, from 5th to 7th June; the Churches of the various Christian
confessions met in Voivodina from 11th to 13th September, in order to pray
together and to reflect on the various themes of the Charta Oecumenica and
on “Christ, Light of the World, Foundation and Hope for Europe”; the
national meeting held on 29th and 30th September on the theme “Christianity
in Europe” in Bulgaria, saw the participation of the various Churches,
universities and the Government itself”. Soon to come, on 10th and 11th
November in Dublin (Ireland), the national Council of Irish Churches (IICM)
will hold a two day meeting to reflect on the theme “The Light of Christ
Shines upon All. The challenges of EEA3 to the problems facing the Churches
in Ireland”.

At this time, many Christian communities of Europe are involved in the 2nd
Stage of EEA3, made up of meetings at a national, regional or local level on
the themes of the assembly. To date, 37 national or trans-regional meetings
are known to be taking place. The list is available on the official EEA3
website,  (www.aee3.org).

All communities and persons who feel the responsibility for bringing about a
world which is just and fit to live in are invited to join this “European
pilgrimage” and to create opportunities to meet, reflect and promote
initiatives around these themes.

The profiles of the 9 chosen themes, offering useful ideas for reflection,
are on the Assembly website.

The CCEE and CEC secretariats will be pleased to receive brief reports of
every initiative or reflection taking place.
