Protests Against The Papal Visit
Between May 7-9, Pope John Paul II made a historical visit in Romania, the first papal visit in a country with an Orthodox minority. Before and during the visit there were several flyers given away on the streets, which denounced the inheritor of the see of Peter as the antichrist. Bartholomew I - Benedict XVI
One of the most interesting things about the pope's visit to Turkey was his encounter with the Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch, Bartholomew I. The way they greeted each other and the thoughts expressed in public and during their conversations manifested their commitment to restore full communion between the two Churches. Even though there were voices saying Pope Benedict XVI's visit will only try to mend some of the consequences risen after his September 12th discourse, he actually had another, more important agenda regarding the message he transmitted to the Turkish authorities. A Rising Trend
After several clergy members or even bishops called into question Vatican's policy towards condoms and contraception (including Cardinal Martini of Milan), British prime minister Tony Blair puzzled much of the Catholic community by saying Vatican should revise its attitude towards the subject.
