Theological Faculty in Sao Leopoldo - Photo: HabitusSão Leopoldo, Brazil, Feb 19 - Parallel to the WCC Assembly an ecumenical university congress with the theme “Mission and Ecumenism in Latin America” is held.

The former General Secretary of the WCC, Konrad Raiser, has taken initiative to gather 120 theological students from various denominations in all Latin America. In addition to these, 30 guests from outside the continent have been invited, so that the congress now has participants from all continents in the world.

The congress is situated at the theological seminary Escola Superior de Teologia in Sao Leopoldo 35 km north of Porto Alegre where the Assembly is held. The program includes lectures by well known professors and head figures from ecumenical organizations, group discussions, visits to development projects, congregational visits, and participation in parts of the WCC Assembly where the participants are joining for instance the Ecumenical Conversations, parts of the Mutirao program as well as plenary sessions.

Coordinator of the congress is Rudolf von Sinner who is a Professor of systematic theology teaching ecumenics and interreligious studies at the EST. From 1999 to 2006 he has been a member of the Faith and Order committee of the WCC and along the teaching he serves as a pastor in the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brasil.

In the coming time the Habitus Network will present some of the participants from the congress.
